Two Bobcats drafted in MLB draft, another signs with Yankees

Pitchers Bryson Dudley and Carson Laws were selected in the MLB Draft while pitcher Matthew Tippie signed with the New York Yankees following the completion of the draft.

It marks the first time since 2019 Texas State has had two pitchers drafted.

Dudley was the first Bobcat drafted in this year’s draft, going in the seventh round and being picked by the Kansas City Royals as the 218th overall pick. Dudley had a team high five wins last season with Texas State with an ERA of 3.93. Dudley held opposing offenses to a batting average of .185 while striking out 53 batters.

Laws was selected 408th overall in the 14th round, being drafted by the Miami Marlins.

Laws finished last season with a 4-1 overall record while earning eight saves. Laws held opposing batters to a batting average of .210 while stirking out 52 batters.

Following the completion of the draft, it was announced that the New York Yankees had signed Tippie to a free agent deal.

Tippie, a graduate of Wimberley, made 26 appearances for the Bobcats last season, striking out a team high 73 batters and holding opposing batters to an average of .205. Tippie also finished the year with a 2-2 record and maintained an ERA of 4.11.
