Transport yourself back to the 50s and 60s with a classic Sock Hop from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday. KZSM is hosting this event at the VFW, located on 1701 Hunter Road, in an attempt to save the station, which has been struggling and may have to shut its doors forever. A $5 donation will see that John Michael and the Retro Cats will have you doing the jitterbug all night! Help the station that gets the word out about our local musicians and hosts so many fun events that we all enjoy.
I have another philanthropic opportunity for you on Sunday. Starting at 3 p.m. at Jack’s Roadhouse, located at 1625 Hopkins Street, there will be 15 bands playing for High Ground: A Benefit Show for Flood Relief to raise funds for the Center Point Volunteer Fire Department, an important contributor to the Kerrville flood rescue effort. Entry is $10, and t-shirts are $25. All of the proceeds will be donated.
