CITY OF SAN MARCOS
Out of an abundance of caution, Cape Road between River Road and Flores Boulevard has been closed in order to evaluate the Mill Race bridge structure, according to a statement issued by the city of San Marcos.
“During routine work on July 11, city crews observed a crack on the bridge that appears to have developed quickly over the last few days, along with signs of deterioration of the concrete deck,” the city stated. “The city will be working with a structural engineer to further evaluate conditions of the bridge. We will know more about the extent of the damage and what repairs may be required after that inspection occurs.” The bridge will remain closed until further notice.
An official with the city of San Marcos said although a preliminary inspection of the Mill Race bridge structure was conducted on Monday, July 14, the city is waiting on the final inspection report. The official stated that it is not clear what the impacts of construction would be on the mill race because they are “still waiting for more information about what may be required.”
