San Marcos Police arrested a suspect in connection with the fatal shooting that occurred in downtown San Marcos early Saturday, July 19, 2025, and resulted in two deaths. Jermiah Jayden Tobias, 19, was taken into custody just after 8 p.m. Tobias is facing two counts of Capital Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault.
Police responded to the intersection of San Antonio and Guadalupe Streets at approximately 1:30 a.m. According to the preliminary investigation, the shooting followed a fight that began between two men who were known to each other.
Investigators learned a third man joined in the fight when he stole a necklace from one of the men initially involved. A fourth individual, later identified by investigators as Tobias, then fired multiple gunshots. Anthony Barrera, 24, was pronounced deceased at the scene by Hays County Justice of the Peace Jo Anne Prado. Alek Pacheco, 20, was transported to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos where he later died. San Marcos Police learned a third victim suffered a graze wound and was taken to Christus Santa Rosa Hospital by personal vehicle where they were treated and released.
