Our K-Pop journey started Aug. 20, 2014, when my son and I moved to Seoul. It was our first week in this bright, bustling, beautiful city, and we heard a song on the PA system of a restaurant in Itaewon that intrigued us. That song was Second Grade by BTS, from the band’s second album, Dark&Wild. The song vibes. It’s catchy and fun, and we were hooked. My son and I embraced this groundbreaking new group on the cusp of skyrocketing to global stardom. Flash forward 11 years. My son and I are spending this week indulging in the BTS fandom. We’re attending Kim Seokjin’s concert in Dallas on Wednesday, then spending the rest of the week participating in cup-sleeve events in Carrollton and Austin. If you’re adventurous and want to break into the world of K-pop, BTS is a fantastic start. Find them on Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube. I recommend listening to them while you stroll the square with a cup of joe from The Coffee Bar. Once the tunes have soaked into your Seoul, let nature further soothe you with a dip in the river.
