City to host South of Downtown Area Plan workshop

CITY OF SAN MARCOS

The city of San Marcos is kicking off a new community- driven planning initiative focused on the South of Downtown area, which includes the Victory Gardens and East Guadalupe Neighborhoods, and invites residents, businesses and property owners to participate in an upcoming Community Workshop on Wednesday, July 23, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos, located at 211 Lee Street.

The South of Downtown Area Plan will take a closer look at the needs, challenges and opportunities in this vibrant, diverse part of the city and build a shared vision for the future. The plan is designed to provide the community with a proactive role in shaping the future of their neighborhood through collaboration, dialogue and local insight.

“We are excited to partner with the community as they create a plan that reflects the unique character, culture, and priorities of the South of Downtown area,” said City Planner, Kaitlyn Buck. “This workshop is an important step to gather the voices of residents, businesses and stakeholders as they guide the future of their neighborhood.”

The workshop is a come and go event and will include interactive stations, activities for all ages and opportunities to share feedback on what matters most to the community. Attendees will have the chance to explore topics such as housing, transportation, parks, arts and culture, and businesses and services.

Community input is vital to the success of this planning effort, and all are encouraged to attend. Refreshments will be provided.
