Bobcats look for their first ever win against Cajuns
The Countdown to Kickoff series takes a look at the upcoming 2025 season for the Texas State Bobcats in their final year of the Sun Belt Conference.
This week will preview the Bobcats road game against the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns.
The Cajuns are coming off a 10-2 regular season with the lone regular season losses coming against Tulane and South Alabama.
Against Texas State, Louisiana escaped with a 23-17 win in their Tuesday night showdown with the Bobcats committing two late game turnovers to seal their fate.
The Cajuns won the Sun Belt West Division title and advanced to the conference championship game against Marshall where they fell to the Thundering Herd 31-3.
Louisiana was invited to play in the New Mexico Bowl against TCU but fell to the Horned Frogs 34-3.
The Cajuns return three offensive starters and four defensive starters from last year as they look to defend their West Divison crown.
On offense, the Cajuns will be led by the duo of Bill Davis and Zylan Perry. Davis led the team in rushing 796 yards on 163 carries and nine touchdowns while catching 11 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. Perry was second in rushing with 695 yards on 112 carries and four touchdowns.
The Cajuns will look to replace their two quarterbacks from last season in Ben Woolridge and Chandler Fields along with six of their seven leading wide receivers.
On defense, the Cajuns return senior defensive lineman Jordan Lawson who made 44 total tackles last season including 5.5 sacks.
Looking to help Lawson is senior Cameron Whitfield. Whitfield made 36 total tackles, 18 solo tackles and a team leading six sacks.
The series history between the Bobcats and the Cajuns dates back to 2013 when Texas State joined the Sun Belt Conference. Because of their geography, the Bobcats and Cajuns have played annually since 2013.
Unfortunately for the Bobcats, the series has not gone in favor of Texas State. The Cajuns have won 12 straight games against Texas State since the series started in 2013 while the Bobcats have been unable to come away with a win.
The last two meetings between the Bobcats and the Cajuns both ended in one-possession wins for the residents of Lafayette.
Kickoff for the Bobcats and Cajuns is set for Saturday Nov. 8 at Cajun Field.
