HELPING THE HILL COUNTRY

Many communities are still in need after the devastating July 4 floods. It will take months, if not years, for people to rebuild their lives. Local businesses in San Marcos such as Middleton Brewing and Rogelio’s Restaurant are hosting fundraisers this Saturday to help raise funds and donations for those affected by the floods. From noon to 6 p.m. Middleton Brewing is hosting a Hill Country Relief Rally event, partnering with the Central Texas fly fishing community to raise funds for the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country. There will be fly tying demos, casting instruction and challenges, raffles and auctions, local vendors and, of course, cold beer and good company. After the event at Middleton make your way to Rogelio’s for fresh Tex-Mex and to participate in their Texas Flood Relief Lotería. The event is free and there will be a session from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and another from 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. Hosted by San Marcos’ own Sirena del Rio, the Indigenous Mermaid of the San Marcos River. Her foundation MermA.I.D. will be collecting diaper and formula donations to help families affected by the floods. Treat yourself to a fun weekend of community activities while giving back to your Hill Country neighbors.
