Life gets away from us sometimes, and then suddenly, you realize it’s been over a year since you’ve been in the river. Specifically, for me, the Blanco River and what may be my favorite place in the whole world: University Camp. UC is a secret little treasured place in Wimberley available to students, staff and alumni of Texas State. Here, the river forms hollowed pools into which the water flows, and it’s the perfect place to rest and let all your troubles wash away. Normally, I make a pilgrimage to the University Camp in Wimberley on my birthday. Last year, the drought made it impossible. This year, the grind of daily life got in the way. But this weekend, finally, you’ll find me lying in the waters of the Blanco, letting the beauty of nature and the sweetness of birdsong heal my soul.
