Women’s Hall of Fame Nominations Parks and Recreation is looking for outstanding local women to honor during the annual induction ceremony in October.A committee of former recipients will review the nominations and select the honorees. Criteria for selection include: volunteerism in multiple areas of service; meeting the needs of the community; demonstration of community initiative; and influencing positive change and going beyond the call of duty. Paper nomination forms will also be available at the Parks and Recreation Office.

Fight the Fall

Where: San Marcos Activity Center Who: Fyzical Therapy & Balance What: Balance is in their name, and they specialize in it. At FYZICAL, fall prevention is one of the cornerstones of their mission. Their clinics across the country join together to “Fight the Fall” by spreading awareness of the danger of falls and how falls can be prevented. Each class meeting will focus on static and dynamic balance, home safety, balance strategies, and education. Instructors will assess each person’s level of confi-

Who: The Heritage Society of San Marcos What: Heritage Association of San Marcos will resume our first Thursday Cottage Kitchen luncheons. Lunch will be served by San Marcos Rotary. Silver Singers Group Sing-Along and Karaoke When: Aug. 8, 2 p.m.
Where: San Marcos Activity Center What: Calling all music lovers ages 60 and above! You’re invited to join the karaoke crew for a harmonious blast or belt out a solo showstopper! We changed up our karaoke program to include group sing-along songs as well as solo performances and now we are changing it up to include all adults, aged 18 and up! So, if you suffer from stage fright and are not ready to grab the mic, that’s okay, you’re welcome to join us anyway and participate in some group sing-alongs.
Not only will you have a great time, but research has shown that singing is also good for your health by boosting memory and your mood. Listening to and performing music reactivates areas of the brain associated with memory, reasoning, speech, emotion, and reward.
