Silencing the voice of Texas voters

LETTER TO THE EDITOR

Dear Editor,

I just saw in the news that Senator John Cornyn has enlisted the F.B.I. to serve as his personal bloodhounds. Why? He wants them to track down Texas state lawmakers who are opposing the efforts of puppet master Donald Trump and his obedient marionette, Greg Abbott, to make sure it’s their voices, not the voices of Texas voters, that are heard in next year’s congressional elections. That’s what their redistricting scheme is all about. And now we have Cornyn politicizing the F.B.I. in support of the Trump/Abbott effort to change the rules in the middle of the game.

No, Senator, no! A thousand times no! It’s time to back off--and it’s time to call off F.B.I. Director Kash Patel, who shouldn’t have said, “Yes!” to your request to begin with.

While I understand that Cornyn may want to burnish his MAGA credentials as he heads into a tough primary fight, that’s not his job and it’s not the F.B.I.’s job. If he wants to do anything related to redistricting, Cornyn should sponsor legislation that would bar this kind of government malpractice in the future. But first, he should get hold of Trump, Abbott, and Patel and tell them, “No, I won’t be used to fight your dirty political battles.” Cornyn and his Capitol cronies must stand up for the people, not for political expediency.

Sincerely, Jon Leonard San Marcos
