Meza earns Sun Belt Preseason Midfielder of the Year

After playing for their first conference tournament title in six years, the Bobcats are looking to maintain their high-level play as Texas State starts the season off this Thursday.

Despite graduating several seniors last season, the Bobcats return many key contributors from last season, including lead goal scorer in senior forward Mady Soumare and junior goalkeeper Caitlyn Draper.

The Sun Belt Women’s Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll is high on the Bobcats for the 2025 campaign. Texas State earned 178 points and three firstplace votes to finish second in the poll behind James Madison, who won the tournament championship last year.

The team was not the only one earning preseason honors as junior midfielder Victoria Meza was voted the 2025 Preseason Midfielder of the Year. Meza started 21 of the Bobcats’ 22 games last season, playing over 1,726 minutes while scoring five goals along with two assists.

Meza was named to the Preseason All-Conference team along with graduate student teammate Kennley Bradley.

Bradley started all 22 games for the Bobcats, playing over 1,800 minutes as a defender. Bradley’s defensive efforts helped the Bobcat defense record nine shutouts during the 2024 season.

Texas State has played two exhibition matches in preparation for the regular season. The Bobcats defeated Queretaro F.C. Femenil of Mexico 1-0 as part of the team’s preseason trip into Mexico.

Texas State returned stateside for a home exhibition match against Texas A&M Corpus Christi where the Bobcats defeated the Islanders 50. Five different Bobcats scored goals for Texas State as the defense came away with their second consecutive shutout.

The Bobcats open the 2025 season at home as Texas State hosts the Our Lady of the Lake Saints. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
