Colton’s Corner: The wait is finally over, sports are back

OP/ED

After two and a half long months, we are finally here. Sports season is back, and it’s shaping up to be another fun and exciting year for both the Rattlers and the Bobcats.

This offseason was not without its share of excitement as well with Texas State announcing their intentions of joining the Pac-12 Conference, which itself is a major coup for university.

While the move to the Pac-12 isn’t until July of next year, right now the focus is on Texas State wrapping up its final year in the Sun Belt.

Out of the three sports seasons, fall, winter and spring, fall is perhaps my favorite season. While football is the headline act during the season, volleyball, college soccer and even cross country all do their part to make the fall season a pleasure to cover.

Back are the days of outside hitters throwing down thunderous spikes and soccer players delivering thrilling last-minute goals. Cross country runners are waking up in the early hours of a Saturday to run in perfect fall weather.

As for football, nothing beats the sport, especially being in Texas. The weeklong anticipation for the game as communities gather on Friday nights, decked out in their school colors and pack their stadiums to full capacity to cheer on their alma mater or their family members, representing the community.

In San Marcos, everyone bleeds purple, and with the Rattlers expected to make a big push for the playoffs, it is shaping to be an exciting year.

But being in San Marcos offers a unique onetwo punch especially being in a college town. After being done with the excitement of Friday nights, you turn around the next morning and do it all over again with college football Saturdays.

Just like in high school, everyone anticipates the upcoming Saturday game that builds and builds until the morning of the game. As everyone knows, Texas State is the place for the perfect tailgates.

Being able to catch up with everyone at a Texas State tailgate after a long offseason is always a blessing to me and a nice way to decompress after a long Friday Night. Just enjoying good food, while watching the games that come on before the Bobcats take the field.

Then after an exciting two days of football, you start the process all over again. (Please don’t ask me about the Cowboys.)

But no matter what your favorite sport or sports season is, one thing is for certain. The wait is over. Sports are back and it couldn’t come at a better time.
