The San Marcos Police Department detained four suspects on Aug. 11 following reports of gunshots in the 300 block of Ellis Street.
Officers observed a silver sedan leaving the area. After a pursuit on Interstate 35, the vehicle stopped near Centerpoint Road and four teenagers were detained.
SMPD officers discovered that the suspects had stolen a handgun from an unlocked vehicle in the La Victoria neighborhood. That gun was then fired into the ground near Willow Springs Park, according to SMPD investigators.
Multiple 9-1-1 callers reported hearing 10–15 gunshots around 4 a.m. on Aug. 11.
SMPD said that it is important for residents to lock their vehicle and remove the keys as well as any valuables stating that stolen guns “often end up being used in violent crimes.”
