Fight the Fall

When: Aug. 20, noon to 1 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center Who: Fyzical Therapy & Balance What: Balance is in their name, and they specialize in it. At FYZICAL, fall prevention is one of the cornerstones of their mission. Their clinics across the country join together to “Fight the Fall” by spreading awareness of the danger of falls and how falls can be prevented. Each class meeting will focus on static and dynamic balance, home safety, balance strategies, and education. Instructors will assess each person’s level of confidence and instruct in strengthening and strategies that are specific for balance and general stability.

Info: Participants need to wear loose, comfortable clothing with rubber- soled shoes.

Critters up Close!

Who: Join us for story time and an interactive showand- tell. Take a close look at our favorite creepy crawlies and bring your favorite nature finds to show others! For ages 412.

Dance for Adults with Disabilities When: Aug. 22, 7 - 9 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center What: Western theme.

Adults with disabilities, you are invited to join us at our themed dance parties with DJ music, door prizes, and fun. These events are held six times a year at the San Marcos Activity Center from 79pm. Concession items such as soda, candy, cookies and chips are $1 each. Participants that require assistance must be accompanied by an assistant.

Theater with Dinner When: Aug. 23, 6 p.m.

Where: Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413, 1701 Hunter Rd.

Who: Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413 & Auxiliary and the Broke Thespians Actors What: “Bingo Night at the Golden Acres Retirement Home” — an interactive mystery performed by Broke Thespian Theatre Company. The ticket includes a spaghetti plate dinner with a roll, salad, cookie and beverage. Alcohol sold separately.

Art for Adults: Altered Books + Zentangle When: Monday, Aug. 25, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Create an altered book or work on Zentangles in this combo class!

A Zentangle is a miniature abstract work of art created by a collection of patterns. It is typically done on a 3.5” X 3.5 “paper” tile using a pencil and a black pen. The small size allows for a work of art that can be completed in a relatively short period of time. Instructor: Lana Daniel.

Alter a book and transform it into your creationphoto album, recipe book, journal—whatever you imagine! Instructor: Tanya Turley. All materials provided. Funded by St.

Humana Health, Wellness, and Informational Classes When: Aug. 27, 11 a.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center What: Humana wants to help members of the community achieve better health and well-being so they’re able to take care of themselves and those who matter most to them. This is why they developed many resources to help people find their path to good health and well-being. Programs-ina- box is an initiative to help their associates provide educational health and wellness content to the communities they serve. Their comprehensive library features over 35 classes. Their educational classes range from 30–60 minutes and cover a variety of well-being topics. The programs-in-abox library features presentations from the following categories: Health and Lifestyle, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, Caregiving, Chronic Conditions and Technology.

60+ S.M.A.S.H. Bowling Social When: Aug. 28, 2 - 4 p.m.

Where: Sunset Bowling Lanes, 1304 Hwy 123.

What: The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation and Sunset Bowling Lanes are hosting a Bowling Social each month.

Info: These bowling events are for ages 60+.

Registration/Cost: The fee for this event is $6/person, which includes shoe rental and 2 games of bowling. RSVP via nriali@sanmarcostx. gov or call 512-3938275 so organizers can reserve enough lanes. $6 cost will be paid to Sunset Bowling on the day of the event.

SMART Orchestra: 6th Annual Composer’s Recital

Where: San Marcos Public Library Lobby Who: Come listen to a chamber music recital, showcasing the creative talents of local composers, featuring a diverse selection of original works.
