San Marcos native running for U.S. Congress District 23

POLITICS

A man born and raised in San Marcos will now be running for U.S. Congress District 23. Zeke Enriquez will be running against Tony Gonzales, the incumbent, in the primary election in March of 2026.

U.S. Congress District 23 currently includes much of southwest Texas but does not include any portion of Hays County.

“My biggest things are securing the border — like actually securing it — physical walls, mass deportations, like President Trump wants,” Enriquez said.

“The Second Amendment — defending it and restoring it back to the way the Founders intended, where ‘shall not be infringed’ means exactly that. On abortion, I’m an abolitionist, so I’d like to work towards a national ban on abortion. ... And lastly, is the economy: we’ve outspent ourselves, and we are out of cans and out of road. So we need to bring back some sanity to our spending — slashing spending, codifying the doge cuts, that sort of thing.”

Enriquez enjoyed his time growing up in San Marcos and hopes to make his city proud by earning a seat as a U.S. Congressmen.

“It was a blast [growing up in San Marcos]. We had the river where we hung out all summer, my friends and I. It’s that small town… [where] all the neighbors would watch out for everyone else,” Enriquez said. “You felt safe.”

San Marcos is also where Enriquez discovered at a young age that he wanted to “serve,” which is one of the biggest reasons he joined the U.S. Marine Corps. That skill was instilled in him early by his San Marcos High School JROTC instructor Colonel Frank Dworaczyk. While in the Marines, Enriquez did a tour in Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II, among other deployments. He was awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with V-Device for Valor.
