SAN MARCOS REGIONAL ANIMAL SHELTER
The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter is participating in the 10th annual Clear the Shelters campaign, a nationwide pet adoption and donation initiative, with a community adoption event on Saturday, Aug.
23. The event will include waived adoption fees for all pets, extended shelter hours from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., local vendors offering pet merchandise, and a few dog trainers.
“Every adoption means a second chance for a deserving pet,” said Animal Services Manager Christie Banduch. “We look forward to connecting many of our animals with their forever families on Aug.
23.”
Since 2015, NBCUniversal Local’s Clear the Shelters campaign has helped more than one million pets across the country find homes. The San Marcos Regional Animal, 750 River Road, will join more than 1,400 shelters participating in this year’s campaign.
“Clear the Shelters is one of our biggest events of the year,” said Animal Services Community Engagement Coordinator Minnie Buckhaults. “Our goal is simple, to give every adoptable pet a chance to go home. We hope this event not only helps families meet their new best friend, but also reminds our community that adoption saves lives.”
Adopters must be 18 years or older with a valid photo ID and are encouraged to submit an adoption application in advance to save time on the event day. Adoptions are first come, first served, and no holds are allowed on animals.
The shelter’s goal is to place 60 pets into loving homes during Saturday’s event. To prepare potential adopters they released a Clear the Shelters Guide on their Facebook page that answers frequently asked questions.
