Bobcats get first ever draw against Texas A&M

In their toughest test of the season, Texas State went on the road to Texas A&M, ending with a draw with the Aggies at 1-1.

The Bobcats’ record improves to 2-0-1 for the season while A&M falls to 1-0-2.

For Texas State, the Bobcats not only produced their first ever draw against the Aggies, but received their most positive result against an SEC member in program history.

The Bobcats attacked the A&M defense early in the first half, with senior midfielder Chloe Jones making a shot-ongoal in the 8th minute to force a save by the A&M goalkeeper to keep the Bobcats off the scoreboard.

Texas State got an opportunity to score their first goal of the game when senior forward Mady Sourmare was fouled outside the penalty box, giving the Bobcats the free kick.

Sophomore midfielder Helen Alormenu took the free kick for the Bobcats and delivered a rocket past the goalkeeper, giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead in the 28th minute. This was Alormenu’s third goal of the season, tying freshman Katrin Agustsdottir for the most goals on the team.

The Aggies were unable to answer the Bobcats goal in the first half as Texas State entered halftime up 1-0.

Texas A&M maintained possession for the majority of the second half but were constantly denied the game-tying goal by the Bobcat defense.

The Aggies finally broke through the Bobcat backline, scoring a goal in the 80th minute to tie the game at 1-1.

Neither Texas State or Texas A&M were able to answer back as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.

Texas State returns home Sunday for their first ever showdown with the Arizona State Sun Devils. The Sun Devils are coming off a 1-1 draw against Texas Thursday night, after their seasonopening win against Nevada.

Kickoff is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at the Bobcat Soccer Complex in San Marcos.
