Omar Galvan-Ochoa was found guilty of murder this week by a Hays County jury, which determined that he shot and killed a Buda gas station customer on Sep. 6, 2023, according to Hays County District Attorney Kelly Higgins. Galvan-Ochoa was sentenced to life in prison as well as a $10,000 fine, the maximum punishment allowed by law for the offense of murder.
According to a press release issued by the District Attorney, surveillance video from the gas station showed 46-yearold Aliaksandr Bushtser was filling his vehicle with gas at a Valero station in Buda when the defendant drove into the gas station and shot Bushtser three times in the back. The Hays County Sheriff’s Office identified the truck the defendant was driving from the gas station video, though detectives could not make out a license plate for the vehicle, Higgins said.
Hays County Sheriff’s Office investigators were able to determine Galvan-Ochoa’s license plate number by referring to FLOCK camera images. The identity of the killer was further confirmed by a local resident, who saw the driver of the truck during a separate altercation minutes after the murder and called 911 to provide the license plate number of the truck, according to a Hays County press release.
“Bringing this killer to justice was truly a team effort,” according to Hays County Assistant District Attorney Elizabeth Schmidt, who prosecuted the case along with ADA Christopher Griffith. She praised the officers from the Kyle and Buda police departments involved in the arrest, as well as investigators from the Hays County Sheriff’s Office.
