The San Marcos Arts Commission will host a dedication ceremony for its newest public art installation on Sunday, Aug 31. from 4 to 5 p.m. at the San Marcos Public Library, located at 625 E. Hopkins St.
The work, Homestead Revisited, is a stained-glass piece created by artists Sondra Kretschmar and Kathryn Welch of River City Glassworks. The installation is inspired by the painting Homestead by San Marcos native and internationally recognized African American artist Bill Hutson The project pays tribute to Hutson’s artistic legacy and his enduring connection to San Marcos. By reimagining Hutson’s painting through the medium of stained glass, the window transforms with natural light throughout the day, offering a vibrant and lasting symbol of history, memory and creativity.
Following a brief presentation, guests will be invited to view the artwork. A reception with live music and light refreshments will be held in the library lobby.
