Chief and TheDoomsdayDevice is multi-talented mainstay of the San Marcos music and culture scene. He’s an artist and filmmaker, but on Sunday at Ivar’s Pub, his talents as an MC and a DJ will be the driving forces of a happening set of soul jams from 6-9 p.m. He’s played with De La Soul and Public Enemy, as well as Grupo Fantasma and Killer Mike. On Sunday, you can hear the classic grooves that inspired him. As the Chief himself says “take a ride through some good vibes” at Soul Sunday.
While I was a kid growing up in Lago Vista, I would put on my kneepads and helmet and set my skateboard next to me on the couch as I admired amazing tricks from the pro skateboarders on ABC’s Wide World of Sports. Alas, I never could master those tricks, but I love taking action photos of skateboarders. The Texas Hill Country Skate Day, at the San Marcos skate park on Saturday, is a terrific opportunity to see cool tricks from area skaters competing for cash prizes. And a great opportunity for some cool photos.
