The inaugural SMTX Gives Back Community Market will take place Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees can pick up gently used household items and clothing that have been donated through the SMTX Gives Back move-out program. The event is free and open to the public.

Every summer, thousands of San Marcos renters relocate, leaving behind usable items. SMTX Gives Back collects these donations and redistributes them to regional non-profit through the Community Market, thereby reducing landfill waste and directly supporting individuals and families in our community.

Residents will be able to browse and take home a wide variety of donated goods. Whether you’re furnishing a new space or simply looking for a few essentials, this event is an opportunity to save money, reduce waste and connect with your neighbors.

Items at the market include clothing, home decor, small appliances, electronics, linens, kitchenware, cookware, bath items, bedding, decorative pillows, small furniture items, school supplies and other household goods.

All ages are welcome, and no registration is required. Items are available on a first-come, first-served basis, with a limit of 50 pounds per person. Shopping bags, snacks and water will be available for attendees. Volunteers and staff will also be on hand to help load items into vehicles.

Furniture items must be picked up by 2 p.m. Please note that parking is limited at the Activity Center, so carpooling is encouraged. Overflow parking is available at the Grant Harris Jr. Building or on nearby streets. Please do not park at the library.

Those interested in volunteering at this event can contact Quin Pugh, the SMTX Gives Back Program Coordinator at [email protected] or call 512-393-8412.
