The City of San Marcos invites organizations, families and individuals to help assemble mosaic panels for a new public mural project that will be installed this fall at the Downtown Mobility Hub, 214 E. Hutchison St. The mosaic mural, designed by Austin artist J Muzacz, will reflect input gathered through a community open house and survey earlier this year.

“This is a unique opportunity for community members to build a public art piece and admire what they made displayed for years to come,” said Creative & Marketing Manager Charlotte Wattigny.

Community assembly workshops will take place: - Saturday, Sept. 6, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room of the San Marcos Activity Center, 501 E. Hopkins St.

- Sunday, Sept. 7, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Price Center, 222 W. San Antonio St.

Workshops are comeand- go and participants can stay for any amount of time. All tools and materials will be provided, and Muzacz will guide volunteers through the mosaic assembly process.

About the artist: J Muzacz is an innovative public artist with a keen eye for social dynamics who has been creating murals for nearly 20 years. Originally from Houston and a graduate of the University of Texas in Sociology, Muzacz went on to live and work abroad for the better half of a decade, painting murals all around the world from Japan to New Zealand and beyond. Now based in Austin, Texas, Muzacz has dedicated himself to communitybuilding through teaching, mentoring, and creating spaces for artists to connect with community members and uplift each other. In 2019, he co-founded The Mosaic Workshop, an artist- run mosaic studio in East Austin that hosts hands-on classes at all levels and community-led mosaic murals of monumental scale.
