Crash causes SM power outage

SAN MARCOS POLICE DEPARTMENT

Nearly two thousand San Marcos utility customers lost power on Thursday after a single-vehicle crash on Wonder World Drive near the Hays County Government Center.

Just after noon on Thursday, a silver Subaru hit a utility pole at Corporate Drive and Wonder World Drive, knocking out the power to about 1,900 SMTX Utilities electric customers. One westbound lane of Wonder World Drive and all of Corporate Drive were shut down. Power was restored to all customers by 2 p.m., according to the San Marcos Police Department.

Hays County buildings within the affected area were not impacted by the outage, maintaining power with backup generators. All essential services, including 911 emergency services, remained fully operational and unaffected during the outage, according to the Hays County Facebook page.
