I have lived on Belvin St. since I was in high school at Lamar, in 1956. I don’t remember the street having any sidewalks. I can’t imagine that there were sidewalks even before 1956. We’ve gone without sidewalks for so long. I wonder why now the city is so eager to put a sidewalk, more apartments? I know you are not listening to Lisa Marie Coppoletta, but at least she does research before she complains about something. I remember in 1970, the rain was so bad, that most of the low crossings were unpassable and the house on the corner of Dixon Street and Hunter Road was swept away and ended across the street. And a car also got swept away on Hunter Road. Our backyards looked like lakes and now our yards are full of weeds. Please, we don’t need a sidewalk. A lot of the families don’t even have enough space for a sidewalk. They don’t want a sidewalk too close to their house. For some good reason we haven’t had a sidewalk, let’s keep it that way. We need more drainage, not only on Belvin St., but around the city. Who knows, you might save a life.

A concerned resident,

Mary Renteria
