Where: San Marcos Activity Center Who: Sponsored by Humana What: In our ongoing quest to provide quality informational, educational, physical and social enrichment opportunities for area seniors, we are excited to introduce one of our newest programs, Around the World with Aging is Cool.

As part of their lifelong learning presentation series, instructors from Aging Is Cool will take us on a fascinating journey across the globe. Each session will focus on a different country as we learn about its cultures, traditions, food and history. Expect surprises along the way, including the possibility to sample popular foods from each destination. Our next stop in our trek around the world will actually be an island that is part of 3 countries: Indonesia, Malaysia, and Brunei. We will be visiting the Island of Borneo.

Punk Tactics with the Broke Thespians When: Sunday Sept. 14 at 2 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Public Library Who: Join us for Punk Tactics, where fashion rebellion meets sustainability.

Bring your beat-up tees, your out-of-trend jeans, and your forgotten jackets and give them a second life. We’re talking spikes, bleach, hand-stitching, patchwork, and raw attitude.

Broke Thespians teaching artists will guide you step by step on how to give your threads a second life and transform them into something unapologetically YOU.

This event is FREE and open to all ages. Just bring your own pre-loved clothing and Broke Thespians will provide all the tools and materials to rework them.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center Who: Sponsored by Humana What: Humana wants to help members of the community achieve better health and well-being so they’re able to take care of themselves and those who matter most to them. This is why they developed resources like programs-in-abox, to help people find their path to good health and well-being. Programsin- a-box is an initiative to help their associates provide educational health and wellness content to the communities they serve. Their educational classes range from 30–60 minutes and cover a variety of well-being topics like: Health and Lifestyle, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, Caregiving, Chronic Conditions and Technology.

60+ Indoor Cornhole When: Sept. 16, 1 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center What: Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to this sport, join us once a month for 60+ Indoor Cornhole at the San Marcos Activity Center. Cornhole is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes.

Contestants take turns pitching their bags at the platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. Benefits of playing Cornhole for Senior Citizens include increased mobility and leg strength, depth perception and vision, and balance and hip mobility.

60+ Monthly Bingo

Fight the Fall

When: Sept. 3, noon to 1 p.m.

Where: San Marcos Activity Center Who: Fyzical Therapy & Balance What: Welcome to Fyzical Therapy & Balance’s Fight the Fall, balance and fall prevention class. Balance is in their name, and they specialize in it. At FYZICAL, fall prevention is one of the cornerstones of their mission.

Info: Each class meeting will focus on static and dynamic balance, home safety, balance strategies, and education. Instructors will assess each person’s level of confidence and instruct in strengthening and strategies that are specific for balance and general stability. Participants need to wear loose, comfortable clothing with rubber-soled shoes.

Participants will be led by an art instructor who will take them step by step through the creation of their painting. All participants will be painting the same subject.
