Celebrate Dia de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the 12th Annual Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/ Walk & Kids Fun Run at Hernandez Elementary School on 333 Stagecoach Trail in San Marcos.
This 5K celebrates an annual holiday observed around the world by many cultures. The Dia de los Muertos 5K event proceeds will be allocated to the Johnnie T. Rosales Memorial Scholarship (johnniejam. org), a 501C3 nonprofit organizasee tion which awards annual scholarships to selected San Marcos High School graduating seniors.

In keeping with event tradition, the late Dr. James F. “Jim” Garber will be honored posthumously for his many years of service to the San Marcos community and as a long time Texas State University educator.
Join in the spirit of this holiday and dress in your favorite Day of the Dead running gear or sponsor a memory board for display at the race in honor of a loved one who has passed, or place their name and photo on this year's Day of the Dead altar. Make sure to take a snap with mascots, the legendary Catrina & her escort Juanito. Music will be provided by DJ Jesse the Jammer.

Race Day Schedule 7 a.m. - Packet pickup. *Online registration available for race day sign-ups 7:30 a.m. - Welcome/ Opening Remarks and Honoree announcement 7:50 a.m. - Group warm up 8 a.m. - 5K Run/Walk 9 a.m. - Kids Fun Run 9:30 a.m. - Awards ceremony Entry Fees are $35 until Oct. 10 and $40 between Oct. 10 and Oct. 25. Runners ages 11 to 18 are $20. Kids Fun Run is free for runners ages 1 to 10. Children will receive a treat bag but no t-shirt. Extra t-shirts will be available to purchase for $15 each, available to all registrants until Oct. 10. Register early because t-shirts and sizes are not guaranteed after.
Packet pickup will be Wednesday, Oct. 22 from 6 - 8 p.m. at Centro Cultural Hispano de San Marcos 211 Lee St. This race will be held rain or shine, however in the event of natural disaster or extreme weather conditions, the race will be canceled and no refunds issued. All attempts will be made to distribute runner tees and swag bags to participants.
