Hosting No. 19 ranked Oklahoma at home, Texas State was able to draw against the Sooners as the Bobcats tied 1-1.
The Bobcats handed the Sooners their first nonwin result of the season while the draw marks the second time Texas State has tied an SEC opponent and marks the second time the Bobcats have tied a ranked opponent in program history.
“It feels good,” senior midfielder Chloe Jones said. “You always want that win but tying a ranked opponent, you can’t complain about that.”
Head Coach Steve Holeman was proud of his team and how they performed on both sides of the ball.
“We knew [Oklahoma] was going to be good,” Holeman said. “They come in here undefeated, ranked Top 20 in the country and they are scoring goals left and right. I thought we had a great defensive effort and created a lot of good chances for ourselves.”
Oklahoma got on the board first against the Bobcats as Texas State committed a foul inside the penalty box.
Hadley Murrell of the Sooners took advantage of a penalty kick and gave Oklahoma the 1-0 lead over the Bobcats in the 22nd minute.
But Texas State answered back in the 29th minute.
After a Bobcat corner kick, Jones made the pass to junior forward Constance Agyemang who made the shot. Though the goalkeeper caught the ball, the ball also crossed the goal line, giving the Bobcats the goal and tying the game at 1-1.
Senior forward Mady Soumare attempted a shot in the 36th minute but a save by Sooner goalkeeper Caroline Duffy kept the Bobcats off the board as the game re- mained tied at 1-1 going into halftime.
The Sooners looked to retake the lead in the 56th minute but a save by freshman Bobcat goalkeeper Brooklyn Escobar kept Oklahoma from taking the lead.
Oklahoma made another shot on goal in the 66th minute only for Escobar to make another save.
The Sooners made one last attempt to retake the lead in the 83rd minute, only for Escobar to make her third save in the second half, ending the game in a 1-1 draw.
Texas State returns to play Sunday at home against the Baylor Bears. The Bears are coming off a 1-0 win over the Texas Longhorns Thursday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
