In the final non-conference game of the season, Texas State fell to the Baylor Bears 4-1 at home.

The Bobcats and Head Coach Steve Holeman enter conference play with a 3-2-2 overall record “It is a tough result but I don’t think it was a 4-1 game,” Holeman said. “They’re good and they certainly deserve to win. But number one, their keeper is phenomenal. She made two of the best saves I’ve seen in a long time. When they got that third goal, it just kind of changed the game, but we continued to fight.

“We can take some positives out of this. I told the team, we played a really tough, difficult, demanding nonconference schedule that will prepare us for conference play. … We feel good about what we did in our nonconference, coming out of this with a winning record against a really tough schedule. It’s a tough result, but we walk away with our heads high.”

The Bobcats struck first in the 13th minute. Freshman forward Lilah Dupree delivered the pass off the corner kick, into the teeth of the defense before senior defender Angela Gatto got the ball past the defender on the header, giving Texas State a 1-0 lead.

It was the first goal allowed by the Baylor defense since their season opener against Texas A&M.

The Bears answered back in the 25th minute. Off the free kick, Baylor senior forward Tyler Isgrig hit a rocket of a shot into the net, tying the game at 1-1.

Despite a furious rally by the Bears late in the first half, the Texas State defense held firm to keep Baylor off the scoreboard and kept the game tied at 1-1 going into the second half.

But the Bears offense took hold in the second half.

Isgrig added her second goal of the game in the 48th minute, completing the brace and giving Baylor the 2-1 lead over Texas State.

Baylor extended the lead to 3-1 in the 63rd minute following an own goal before scoring their final goal in the 68th minute.

Texas State starts Sun Belt Conference play for the final time as the Bobcats make the trip to Louisiana to battle the Louisiana Monroe Warhawks. ULM is coming off a 1-0 win over the North Texas Mean Green to improve their overall record to 52.

Kickoff for Texas State-ULM is set for 7 p.m. Saturday at Brown Stadium in Monroe, Louisiana.
