JR. TEXAS WATER SAFARI

While the Texas Water Safari garners a lot of national mainstream attention, the Jr. Texas Water Safari is just as thrilling and competitive as its longer counterpart.

Much like the Texas Water Safari, the Jr. Texas Water Safari starts at the head waters of the San Marcos River in Aquarena Springs.

There, competitors race in their respective water vessels down the San Marcos River and over the rapids at Rio Vista Park. For many including myself, the visual of racers navigating the rapids at Rio Vista is a sight to behold.

However the finish line isn’t San Antonio Bay, next to the Gulf of Mexico but rather the bridge at Staples in Martindale, making the race more of a sprint than a long endurance where speed is the name of the game.

Many competitors of the Texas Water Safari take part in the JTWS to to train and compete for bragging rights.

The event is scheduled for Saturday at San Marcos City Park. Registration starts at 8 a.m., race starts at 9 a.m.
