CITY OF SAN MARCOS
The City of San Marcos Office of Emergency Management, with assistance from the San Marcos Police Department, will conduct an active attack training exercise Friday, Sept. 19, at each building located within the City Hall complex, at 630 E. Hopkins Street.
To allow the exercise to take place safely, the City Hall complex will be closed to the public from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. The temporary closure will impact all services provided at City Hall facilities, including obtaining passports, vital records and permits. Normal operations at the City Hall complex are expected to resume at 12 p.m. on Friday.
During the exercise, community members may hear the sound of simulated gunfire and see a large presence of police and emergency vehicles in the area.
“This training is part of the City’s ongoing efforts to prepare for and respond to emergency situations,” Assistant Emergency Management Coordinator Reese Martin said. “Just as schools conduct regular response drills, we want our city staff to practice coordinated responses to ensure readiness.”
The exercise will not impact operations at other City facilities, including the Utility Billing, 1040 Highway 123, and the Public Services Center, 2217 E McCarty Lane.
