VAN GOGH ACTIVITY PLANNER

Pile on the paint with the American Communal Industries artist collective at the Van Gogh Painting Sessions Friday from 2 - 5 p.m. at MotherShip Studios. This workshop will help prepare San Marcos for the immersive “What Would Vincent Do?” experience at MotherShip in October. Supplies are provided!

“Loving Vincent,” is a fascinating movie, each frame hand-painted in the style of Van Gogh by a team of 125 artists from around the globe. The plot has something to do with a postman, but the voiceover acting and dialogue are not nearly as good as the animation. I suggest turning the movie sound off and kicking back with your favorite instrumental album or KZSM program and watch your favorite Van Gogh paintings come alive. Available for free on Kanopy (sign up with your library card).

“The Ear” by Estonian illustrator/author Piret Raud is a terrific picture book, with unique and intricate artwork and an intriguing plot. Perhaps too strange for very young children, it tells the story of how Van Gogh’s missing ear adapts to life without a head… somehow concise, fun and uplifting in spite of the bizarre subject matter, it’s unlike any book I’ve ever read.
