The morning commute northbound on Interstate 35 was disrupted significantly for hours on Wednesday morning due to a crash, but no injuries were reported.
According to a spokesperson for the city of San Marcos, the first calls of an accident came in to the San Marcos Police Department around 6:20 a.m. on Sept. 24. Reports initially indicated an 18-wheeler and two other vehicles were involved in a crash. The 18wheeler turned over near the 209 mile marker in the northbound lane headed toward the Yarrington overpass. All northbound lanes were closed, with traffic being diverted to the Blanco River exit at 208.
The 18-wheeler had a fuel leak. The Texas Department of Transportation said more than 15 feet of pavement was damaged by the 18wheeler. Because of the damage, the interstate could not be reopened immediately due to large grooves cut in the roadway. Special equipment was needed to repair the grooves.
The interstate was reopened just before noon on Wednesday.
