Is there something you would like everyone to know? Your True Community Radio Station will help you spread the word to the San Marcos community and beyond. At KZSM 104.1/KZSM.org, we offer different possibilities for getting your message out, depending on what you want to say.
If you would like to invite our listeners to an event or simply publicize the work of your organization, we will broadcast a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for you. Send us a press release or a flyer if you have one, or write up a one-minute announcement (about 120 words). Include date, time, place, entrance fees (if any), and all other relevant information. If you’re promoting an event, please send your information at least 30 days ahead of time. We will take a week to prepare and record your PSA, then run it for three weeks. If you’re past the deadline, you can still send the information, and we will announce your event on the air when possible. Send your information to KZSMSanMarcos@gmail .com.
Instead of, or in addition to, creating a PSA, you can drop in to “Open Door” (Wednesdays noon to 3 p.m. and Thursdays noon to 2 p.m.) and spend 15-30 minutes talking with the host about your event or your project. Advance notice is appreciated but not mandatory— just come to the door of our studio at 216 North Guadalupe and the host will let you in.
“We the People” (Fridays 7-8 p.m.) covers political, economic, and other issues of interest to the local community. If you have a concern about local government or are running for office, use the station’s email to contact host Rob Roark to schedule an interview. Three of the current candidates for the San Marcos City Council have already appeared on the show, and more will follow. Elected officials often call or drop in to explain their positions. The underlying mission of “We the People” is to demonstrate that “one person can make a difference,” as Roark reminds his listeners on every show.
If you are opening a new business, you can announce it on “We the People.” To keep attention on your business, become a sponsor or underwrite a show with a regular donation to sustain our 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Email the station to learn about different options for getting the word out and supporting a community resource at the same time.
