Hays County residents are invited to the Southside Community Center on Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. to celebrate the grand reopening of its temporary shelter. All are also welcome to volunteer, donate or sponsor the all-day event on Oct. 10, where neighbors will receive services, resources and necessities.
Southside Community Center, a nonprofit organization serving the needs of San Marcos and Hays County, will hold several events in honor of World Homeless Day. This day recognizes the challenges of and potential solutions to homelessness worldwide.
At least 200 Hays County residents and more than 20,000 Texans are unhoused, according to the Southside Community Center. Along with partner organizations and the Homelessness Coalition of Hays County, Southside seeks to bring awareness to the issues that lead to homelessness as well as the ways individuals, nonprofits, businesses and governmental entities can join together to stop the growth of homelessness in the area.
