LOCAL BUSINESS
Opened in the summer of 2015, The Pita Shop solidified itself as a staple for locals and college kids alike throughout this past decade. From homemade falafel, gyros and handmade hummus, the restaurant brings the Mediterranean to middle Texas.
The shop is co-owned and operated by Omar Aldmour and Susan Mutschlechner, who founded the restaurant after working together at another restaurant in town. Mutschlechner is a fourthgeneration San Marcos resident while Aldmour has called America his home for nearly two decades after immigrating from the Middle East, bringing with him the family recipes that he now shares with San Marcos foodies.
“We love this community, it’s been my home for the past 17 years,” Aldmour said.
Mutschlechner was pregnant with their daughter Emily during the first year of the shop so their daugh- ter has grown up with the restaurant. She was a big help preparing for the anniversary party by making homemade tie-dyed Pita Shop shirts with her mom.
The shop went all out for the event with sparkling decorations, a raffle where guests could win merchandise or gift cards, and a special anniversary menu deal including free meals for kids and a free Mediterranean dessert for guests with a sweet tooth. Locals flooded the restaurant to celebrate the co-owners and their staff, reflecting on the past ten years. The co-owners predict that two thirds of their customers are regulars.
“I’m proud that people are happy coming here and they come back,” Mutschlechner said.
Located at 1904 Old Ranch Road 12, the shop is open Tuesday through Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
“We love you San Marcos, thank you for the support, thank you for the love. Thanks for everything. We wouldn’t make it without y’all’s help, y’all’s support,” Aldmour said. “I can’t wait for the next ten.”
