SACRED SPRINGS POWWOW

Spring Lake holds a special place for many, not only in San Marcos but across the state. From it’s years as Aquarena Springs to the glass bottom boats, the area is near and dear to people who have spent time in the best part of Texas. But the heart of San Marcos is also a very spiritual place for some people, with the lake being considered the one of the longest continuously inhabited area in North America. History starts here, and it is sacred to many Native Americans, which will be celebrated this weekend at the 15th Annual Sacred Springs Powwow.

Hosted by the Indigenous Cultures Institute, the Sacred Springs Powwow is a celebration of Native American culture.

The event is celebrated by the banging of a ceremonial drum throughout the two days, which feature dancers dressed in their traditional regalia, as well as locally made food, and arts and crafts vendors. Overall, it is one of the most visually and spiritually impressive events hosted in San Marcos.
