The Bobcats won their fourth straight game this past Thursday, defeating the Arkansas State Red Wolves 1-0.

Texas State, who currently is in first place in the Sun Belt Conference, improves their overall record to 7-2-3 while their conference record improves to 4-0-1 with 13 total points.

”Any team can tell you that this is one of the toughest places to play for many reasons. To come away from this game with three points is a great result,” Head Coach Steve Holeman said after the game. “We definitely didn’t play our best in the first half but turned things around at halftime. We spent a lot of time in their half and created quite a few quality chances. At the end of the day, we were able to convert and get the W.”

The Red Wolves tried to strike early in the 5th minute with a shot on goal only for freshman goalkeeper Brooklyn Escobar to make the save.

The Bobcats tried to answer back as senior midfielder Mady Soumare made the shot on goal in the 18th minute but the shot was saved by Arkansas State.

After just making one shot-one-goal in the first half, the Bobcats finally connected.

With the ball in front of the net, inside the box, Arkansas State attempted to kick the ball away from the goal only for the ball to find the foot of Soumare. Soumare immediately delivered a shot which made it past the goalkeeper for the goal in the 47th minute. The goal was Soumare’s fourth of the season.

Arkansas State attempted to answer back in the 50th minute only for Escobar to make the save.

The Red Wolves were unable to make another shot-on-goal for the rest of the second half as Texas State came away with the 1-0 win.

The Bobcats return home Sunday afternoon for a showdown against the rival Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns. The Cajuns are coming off a dominant 50 win over the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. Louisiana is currently in fourth place in the West Division and seventh in the conference overall.

Kickoff for Texas State-Louisiana is set for 1 p.m. at the Bobcat Soccer Complex.
