FLY IN HISTORY

One of my favorite places in San Marcos is the Commemorative Air Force at the San Marcos Regional Airport. I’m not sure if this is literally true, but I was told it is the only hangar in the USA that was in official use during World War II that still has World War II airplanes today. You feel the gravity of that history when you step inside That’s All Brother, the C-47 that led the D-Day invasion, and think about how many paratroopers jumped out of that plane onto the beaches of Normandy never to return again. Friday and Saturday this week they are hosting the Aviation Discovery Fest. There will be cockpit tours, aircraft rides (available for purchase), military vehicles on display, historical re-enactors, STEM activities and a flight simulator custom-built to see what it is like to fly That’s All Brother. On Friday, the event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. On Saturday, it runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tickets are $10 and free for those under 18. Go experience a part of history that you’ll never forget.
