VFW honors POW and MIA soliders
BERNADETTE ADAMS VFW AUXILIARY PRESIDENT
On Prisoners of War/Missing in Action (POW/MIA) Day, September 19, the Maurice T. Suttles VFW Post 3413 Auxiliary honored our veterans by preparing a warm breakfast for VFW members.
During the gathering VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Instructor Loretta Eiben presented a moving documentary that followed the story of U.S. Marine Donald Matocha who was killed in action during the Vietnam War. The film highlighted the emotional journey of his sisters—including Loretta Eiben—as they sought to recover his remains and find closure in Vietnam.
VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Instructor Loretta’s grandson Tyler Eiben, a member of the San Marcos AFJROTC, is the great-nephew of Marine Matocha. The story touched everyone deeply— there wasn’t a dry eye among those watching.
Later that night, at the entrance to the San Marcos football field, VFW Auxiliary Patriotic Instructor Loretta Eiben reminded attendees to honor and remember Prisoners of War and those Missing in Action.
