The Texas State University soap box derby began in 1967 as an annual Homecoming tradition where students build and race homemade boxcars. Started by the fraternities at the university, the event is still a popular campus event that involves student organizations competing against each other in their custom-built vehicles.
Other Homecoming events included a spirit parade, talent show, office and student organization decorating competitions, school supply drive and an alumni gala.
