Costume Party Dance for Adults with Disabilities
When: Friday, Oct. 17, 7 to 9 p.m.
Where: San Marcos Activity Center
Who: Ages 18+
What: The city of San Marcos hosts Dances for Adults with Disabilities every other month with DJ music, door prizes, and lots of fun! Come dressed in your favorite costume.
Registration/Cost: FREE! Concession items are available.
60+ Trivia Time
When: Wednesday Oct. 22, 1 p.m.
Where: San Marcos Activity Center
What: This monthly event will include participants answering multiple choice questions on a variety of topics through Trivia Nerd, a web based, trivia hosting platform. A mobile device, such as a smart phone, a tablet, or laptop computer, is required to play 60+Trivia Time. The questions and possible answers will be projected onto a screen and will also be displayed on the player’s device.
Each participant will use their device to select their answers. Trivia Nerd will keep track of individual scores. Points are awarded for correct answers, and additional points are awarded to players that answer the questions the fastest. The topics for each round are chosen by the host. You will not have to download anything to your device. Play on any smart phone, tablet, or laptop, via a web browser.
Registration/Cost: Registration for Trivia time is not required.
Farmer Fred’s Harvest Fall Carnival
When: Friday, Oct. 24, 5 to 8 p.m.
Where: City Park
What: There’ll be ghoulies and ghosties and long-legged beasties, sodas and popcorn and other sweet eaties, contests and games and all kinds of treaties, in an evening of fun and fall-themed freebies. Costume contest.

Getting Crafty with Humana
When: Friday Oct. 24, 2 p.m.
Where: Dunbar Recreation Center, 801 West MLK
What: For the meeting in October, participants will be decorating small pumpkins. All supplies will be provided by Humana and San Marcos Parks and Recreation.Registration is required and is limited to 36.

Dia de los Muertos 5K
When: Saturday, Oct. 25
Where: 333 Stagecoach Trail
What: For his many contributions to San Marcos and as a long time educator, Dr.
James F. “Jim” Garber has been selected as the Dia de los Muertos 5K Run/Walk 2025 Honoree. He will be celebrated and remembered posthumously at this year’s 5K. Dr. Garber lived in San Marcos since 1982 and was employed at Texas State University for 37 years where he taught thousands of students and shared his passion for Mesoamerican archeology. As a concerned citizen he was an active volunteer, devoted to San Marcos and later appointed as a member of the Planning and Zoning Commission in 2011 where he served as chairperson from 2014 to 2021. His work as an educator, generous community spirit, and service to local citizens were all factors in selecting him for this honor.

Humana Health, Wellness, and Informational Classes: Medicare 101
When: Wednesday Oct. 29, 11 a.m.
Where: San Marcos Activity Center
What: Humana wants to help members of the community achieve better health and well-being so they’re able to take care of themselves and those who matter most to them. This is why they developed resources like programs in a box, to help people find their path to good health and wellbeing. Programs-in-a-box is an initiative to help their associates provide educational health and wellness content to the communities they serve. Their educational classes range from 30–60 minutes and cover a variety of well-being topics like: Health and Lifestyle, Nutrition, Behavioral Health, Caregiving, Chronic Conditions and Technology.
The Oct. 11 class will help you better understand Medicare and the plan options available.
60+ Super Senior Jeopardy
When: Wednesday Oct. 29, 1 p.m.
Where: San Marcos Activity Center
What: This group social will include playing a “Jeopardy like” trivia game from Jeopardy-Labs.com. Participants will take turns choosing the category and amount of the question. Each participant will have the opportunity to answer each question. For every correct answer, participants will be awarded the “amount” of the question. For every incorrect answer, the “amount” of the question will be deducted from the participant’s score. Points are not awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.
60+ S.M.A.S.H. Bowling Social
When: Thursday Oct. 30, 2 - 4 p.m.
Where: Sunset Bowling Lanes,1304 HWY 123 What: The City of San Marcos Parks and Recreation and Sunset Bowling Lanes are hosting a Bowling Social each month, on Thursday afternoons.
The fee for this event is $6.00/person, which includes shoe rental and 2 games of bowling.

Bowl-o-Rama Mama

Where: Sunset Lanes Bowling Alley What: Occurs annually in November. Children and their mothers or mother-figures are invited to join us at Sunset Bowling Lanes for a night of bowling fun.
The event will feature two games of bowling, a photo booth, concessions and a treat bag.

What: Join us for Game Day, every Monday at the San Marcos Activity Center from 12:30 4 p.m. Game materials for Bridge, Mexican Train Dominoes, Hand & Foot, Mahjong and 42 are provided.We will add new games at your request. New participants are always welcome. Registration for Game Day is not required. We ask that participants please arrive on time to get in on a game.
