The Genealogical and Historical Society of Caldwell County will hold its annual meeting on Saturday, Nov. 1 at the J. B. Nickells Memorial Library, 215 South Pecan Ave., in Luling. The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 12:00 noon.
Following a brief business meeting for the election of 2026 officers, guest speaker Kevin Klaus, noted and highly sought-after Program Specialist of the General Land Office and Veteran’s Land Board, will discuss the Court of Claims records. The Court of Claims was an administrative body that substantiated early land claims for individuals who were entitled to land for various services to the state. They contain information on these early settlers in Texas and provide much personal information for historians and persons tracing their ancestors.
Following the program there will be refreshments and an opportunity for everyone to visit and learn more about our fascinating local history. A number of door prizes will be awarded to participants attending our meeting. All visitors are welcome. Membership in the Society is not required.
