SAN MARCOS CONSOLIDATED INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT

San Marcos High School students and their parents celebrated the beginning of Homecoming Week with a downtown parade though downtown on Saturday. Athletes and students waved, threw candy and blew bubbles for the crowd of supporters gathered at the event.

The route began on North LBJ Drive, traveled past East Hopkins to East Hutchinson Street and ended on South Edward Gary Street.

The San Marcos High School Homecoming football game is scheduled for Friday, Oct. 24 , with a 7:30 p.m. kick-off at Toyota Rattler Stadium as the Rattlers take on the Knights of Cibolo Steele. The crowning of the SMHS Homecoming King and Queen will take place during the halftime show.

Homecoming Queen nominees are: Miley Esquivel, Angel Guerrero, Anissa Ramirez, Chloe Urrutia and Isabella Zertuche.

Homecoming King nominees are: Jyuan Alonso, Curtis Green, Quentin McElroy, Reynaldo Sandoval and Dominic Valdez.

Each SMHS class also nominated the following Princesses and Princes: Freshman - Alex Arredondo & Juliana Garcia; Sophomore - Lincoln Ogunbase & Josslyna Alonso; Junior - Ivan Rivas & Alexis Delgado; and Senior - Kant Nyi Lu & Isabella Carrasco.

Parade participants from local law enforcement included the Hays County SWAT Team, which is a regional team made up of officers from multiple agencies throughout Hays County. SMPD also entered two units in the parade: our recruiting vehicle, a Chevy Impala, and the department’s Mine-Resistant-Ambush-Protected (MRAP) vehicle, which is used for highrisk rescues and critical incident response. Both were part of the community engagement effort surrounding the parade.

The San Marcos Police Department also assisted with traffic control during the parade. A total of six SMPD officers were assigned to ensure a safe route and manage temporary road closures along the parade path.

The San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce will announce the winners of the Rally for the Rattlers spirit campaign tomorrow. The contest encourages local businesses to decorate their storefronts to show their support for SMHS.

There are 4 categories in the Rally for the Rattlers decorating contest: Best Exterior, Best Interior, Best Window Signage and First Timer’s Award. Winners receive H-E-B gift cards, tickets to the Homecoming Game with on-field recognition, Rattler swag and awesome bragging rights!
