Osterman pitches complete game, shuts out China 1-0

Texas State associate head coach Cat Osterman pitched nine scoreless innings on Tuesday for a complete-game shutout as the USA Women's National Softball Team defeated China, 1-0, at the International Cup in Columbus, Georgia.

Osterman stayed within double-digit pitches, throwing 99 times during the contest and striking out a dozen batters without a walk. The game-winning run came in the third inning when infielder Valerie Arioto hit an RBI single to bring outfielder Haylie McCleney home.

"This win was big," Osterman said. "It was exciting to go seven innings. I found some good timing in the middle of the game, which made it a lot of fun. The team is coming together, and I am excited to see what we can do together."

China is ranked as the No. 8 team in the world according to the World Baseball Softball Confederation. No. 1 USA also went on to beat No. 20 Peru 10-0 Tuesday night, the USA U19 national team 5-1 on Wednesday, No. 6 Chinese Taipei 1-0 on Thursday and fell to No. 2 Japan on Friday. The team was scheduled to play Mexico on Saturday. The game ended after press time.
