TXST MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Bobcats took the court for the first time this season, battling the Huston-Tillston Rams in an exhbition game, winning 102-52. Head Coach Terrence Johnson was proud of this team’s effort against the Rams, highlighting the roles senior guard Mark Drone and junior Kaden Gumbs play in the offense.
”When we play with high energy, I think we are doing well,” Johnson said. “I thought we tried to share the ball for the most part, especially when Mark and Kaden are in the game when we are playing two point guards.
“It kind of reminds me of when we played Marlin Davis and Mason Harrell together. We shared the ball and there were times both of those guys combined for 16 assists a game.”
Drone finished the game with 10 points while Gumbs finished the game with nine points, five rebounds and four assists, a team high.
Sophomore Franck Emmou led the team in scoring with 15 points. Senior Makai Willis and junior Dimp Pernell both scored 12 points each as the Bobcats finished the game with four players scoring in double figures.
”In the game, I want to see them reap the fruits of their labor.,” Johnson said. “These guys have been putting in some work. I’m always excited and it feels good inside when they do the things that we’ve been working on, when they execute, get deflections and stops.”
