A multi-agency effort led to the arrest of a man with approximately 30 Sexual Assault warrants who was extradited back from Canada after fleeing.
Juan Pablo Acosta, 45, of Buda, was arrested by the Buda Police Department on July 13, 2021 for two counts Sexual Assault, a second degree felony, and bond forfeiture for a Travis County Discharge of a Firearm charge, according to a press release issued by Hays County Sheriff’s Office.
On Nov. 8, 2021, the Buda Police Department’s investigation resulted in approximately 30 Sexual Assault warrants issued for Acosta out of Hays County Justice of the Peace Pct. 5. In December 2021, the Hays County Sheriff's Office Special Services Division assisted in the attempt to locate Acosta, who was then a fugitive from justice.
The investigation found that Acosta was in Toronto, Canada, but he could not be arrested and extradited due to his legal status. United States, Mexican and Canadian court approval were required for extradition, which was achieved through cooperation between Hays County Special Services Division, the U.S. Marshals Service and the Hays County District Attorney’s Office.
Acosta was arrested in Canada for unrelated charges and held without bond throughout the legal process on June 27, 2025. He was extradited by the U.S. Marshals Service for his Texas charges and booked into the Hays County Jail on Oct. 29.
“The Sheriff’s Office would like to thank the Buda Police Department, the Hays County District Attorney’s Office, and the United States Marshals Service for their collaboration and teamwork to bring Acosta into custody,” the press release stated.
