Texas State volleyball returns home with two wins after sweeping Southern Miss on Saturday afternoon.
Highlighted by a 12kill and 11-dig doubledouble from Samantha Wunsch, who worked alongside Bailey Hanner’s seven-kill and eightblock night to help the Bobcats to a 3-0 win. Maggie Walsh also had an all-around day with eight kills, 10 digs and four blocks while Alyssa Clark dug 16 balls in the three-setter.
The Bobcats were down most of the way through the first set but rallied back to find a 2523 set win. Both sides were plagued with errors and hit sub .100, but the Bobcat block helped Texas State find an edge with seven to the Golden Eagles one. That, along with four kills with her two blocks from Bailey Hanner helped Texas State to win the first set.
The Golden Eagles led early on again in the second set, carrying an 1114 lead as the team’s neared the media time out. From there, though, Texas State went on a 4-0 run spearheaded by four straight kills from Wunsch to take a 15-14 lead at the media time out. From there, the Bobcats pushed out to a further 17-14 lead before the Golden Eagles called a second timeout. From there, Texas State finished the set with a 25-20 win to take the 2-0 lead. Texas State improved its attack in set two, swinging 15-5-33 for a .303 attack percentage. Wunsch led the way with eight kills in the second set.
The Bobcats were dominant in set three, with the team swinging 15-3-28 with 3.0 blocks. Highlighting the third set was a .833 attack percentage from Maggie Walhs who had five kills on six swings. Brooke Bentke also came alive in the third set wit three blocks and two kills. Texas State limited the Golden Eagles to just six kills while they swung in the negative en route to the 25-11 set three win.
After today’s three-set win, Texas State is 12-11 on the season and 7-5 in Sun Belt play.
The Bobcats return home this weekend to battle the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Coastal Carolina enters the game being swept in two games by the Georgia Southern Eagles.
Tip-off for Texas State-Coastal Carolina for Game 1 is set for 6 p.m. Friday then Game 2 set for 12 p.m. Saturday.
