John Hutcherson speaks to the Rotary Club of San Marcos on Nov. 19 about the Rotary Foundation and major giving opportunities through Rotary’s endowment and major gifts programs.
He is the past president of the Fredericksburg Morning Rotary Club and is a past governor of Rotary District 5840, incorporating 55 clubs in South Central Texas. He is also the District 5840 Rotary Foundation Chair for Endowment and Major Gifts.
John Hutcherson is passionate about the importance of Rotary’s continuing international goal of eradicating polio through the vaccination of children in developing countries. He and his wife Judy have been to India and Pakistan, joining scores of volunteers from across the globe to help with mass vaccination events. He is also well known for his passion for bicycling and has combined his polio and cycling passions by doing 100-plus mile cycling rides to raise money to end polio.
Hutcherson attended Allegheny College, earning a degree in sociology. He then attended Florida State University to earn a master’s degree in social work and the University of Maryland to complete a Ph.D. in human development. He served in the United States Air Force from 1967-1972, stationed at Andrews Air Force Base and spent 37 years as a financial advisor with Ameriprise in Fredericksburg. After retiring from Ameriprise he and his wife began a new vocation as innkeepers in Fredericksburg.
The Rotary Foundation funds humanitarian projects around the world to promote peace, health, education, economic development, and the environment.
