With winter comes an extra hour of darkness on a Saturday evening, not to mention the colder weather. Which for the college me meant clove cigarettes, dark clothes and a leather jacket… and of course some terrific music…. Joy Division, Bauhaus and the Cure are classics, but I also loved (and still love) Dead Can Dance and The Birthday Party/Bad Seeds.
On Saturday, Triple Six Social (at 329 Cheatham Street) hosts their Goth Night, featuring live music from In the Shadows and Shadow Collective. To prep for this show, I suggest re-watching “The Hunger,” a terrific vampire movie starring Catherine Deneuve and Goth King David Bowie… If you don’t watch the whole movie, find a clip of the Bauhaus nightclub performance of “Bela Lugosi’s Dead,” one of the Gothiest of all Goth moments.
